I wrote my first program at 13 and sold it to a local video rental shop. That was 1995, and the feeling of building something people actually use hasn't changed since.
I founded IT House in 2003 in Riga, Latvia. I knew early on I wanted to work globally. What started as small web projects grew into a product development team working with companies across 19 countries, from early-stage startups to enterprises like Karnov Group, AppGyver, Ahlsell, and Betty Blocks.
Along the way, we built our own products. We took them through Startupbootcamp and Ignite 100, traveled to different countries to meet customers face to face, and dealt with the chicken-and-egg problem that every marketplace founder knows.
For over a decade, I also helped build Latvia's startup ecosystem, including co-founding TechHub Riga (now Startup House, the country's first tech coworking, home to 500+ startups) and co-organizing TechChill (formerly TechCrunch Baltics) and Garage48 hackathons.
I still write code. I review pull requests. I join kickoffs when a project needs it. Staying hands-on is how we know what's hard and what's possible. When a senior person is involved from day one, fewer things fall through the cracks.
