CrowdCulture: Crowdfunding for creative projects
A Ruby on Rails crowdfunding platform for cultural initiatives: project creation, backer management, and community funding.

The idea
CrowdCulture combines traditional crowdfunding with the ability for cultural workers to seek public funding. By pooling private money from members and federal money from the Swedish cultural budget, the platform enables the public to have a direct impact on cultural financing. Members vote on projects, and their votes dictate how public funds are allocated: a democratic, community-driven approach to cultural support.
What we built
We took over the CrowdCulture project to enhance user engagement and improve core functionality.
- Badge system Awards active users with three levels of badges across different categories, using game theory principles to increase participation in project activities
- Platform improvements Improved site functionality and overall user experience
- Community engagement Incentivized users to contribute more actively, fostering a vibrant and supportive community
The result
The badge system significantly boosted user engagement and participation. The platform became more interactive, encouraging users to support cultural projects more actively. Performance and reliability improvements made it easier to navigate and participate in crowdfunding activities. The enhancements contributed to the successful realization of numerous cultural projects.
