When this fits

Your previous team didn't deliver

They disappeared mid-project, delivered something that doesn't work, or you chose a cheaper option and got code nobody can maintain. We assess what's salvageable and either fix it or rebuild the parts that matter.

Your product doesn't scale anymore

It worked for 100 users. Now you have 10,000 and everything is slow, breaking, or expensive to run. We diagnose the bottlenecks and rebuild the architecture, keeping what already works.

You built with AI tools and hit a wall

You used Lovable, Bolt, Replit, or v0 to build a prototype, and it proved the idea. Now you need authentication, payments or architecture that hold up with paying users. We check what is ready and what needs work before anything goes live.

What we do

  • Technical review and diagnosis
  • Architecture refactoring
  • Performance and scaling fixes
  • Database optimization
  • AI prototype → production path
  • Team handoff and documentation

How rescue works

01
Review (2 to 4 hours)

You send us access. We review code quality, architecture, and what's working and what isn't. Then you get a written assessment.

02
Plan

What works and should be kept. What needs rebuilding. Estimated cost and timeline to get to production. Technology recommendations.

03
Execute

We fix, refactor, or rebuild, depending on what the review found. You see progress throughout.

04
Hand off

Everything is documented and handed over. Your code is yours.

What we check first in an AI-built app

  • Who can see what. Whether one user can reach another user's data.
  • Where the money goes. Payments and refunds, so no order is charged twice or lost.
  • Keys and secrets. Passwords and API keys that ended up in the code or the browser.
  • 4 more checks
    • How the data is structured. Whether the database will hold up as you add features, or needs reshaping first.
    • What happens when something fails. Errors that vanish silently instead of being logged and fixed.
    • Code another developer can work on. AI tools often copy the same logic into many places, so one fix has to be made five times.
    • Real traffic. What breaks when a hundred people use it at once instead of one.

Not every project needs a full rebuild

We've been building software since 2003, and we've inherited a lot of broken projects. We know how to walk into an unfamiliar codebase, find the actual problem, and tell you if it can be saved.

01

We diagnose the actual problem behind the symptoms

A slow page might be a bad query, a missing index, an over-fetched API, a bloated front-end, or all four. We diagnose with data, and only then propose a fix that keeps the rest of the product working.

02

Refactor first, rebuild only when needed

Sometimes the right answer is 'fix this part, throw away that part.' Sometimes it's 'start fresh, but keep these lessons.' We won't sell you a full rebuild if a refactor is enough. And we won't duct-tape a broken foundation if it's wasting your money.

03

Honest assessment, written down

The written report covers what to keep, what to rebuild, estimated cost, and timeline. There's no commitment beyond the review, and you can use it with us or take it elsewhere.

04

AI prototype to production, done right

AI prototyping tools have come a long way, and some prototypes are closer to production than they look. We review what you have: what works stays, and we fix or rebuild only what doesn't hold up with real users, real payments and real data. You keep the user experience you've already tested.

05

You inherit code that's yours

Each rescue includes documentation, a clean Git history, monitoring setup, and a 3-month code warranty. If you want to keep working with us, great. If not, your next developer will thank us.

06

Senior engineers review your code

Rescue work is the wrong place to learn on the job. Senior engineers with 7+ years of experience review the code. On complex problems, our founder joins the team to help find the best solution.

After the rescue

Once the project is stable, a care plan helps keep it that way. Three levels, with response times from 48 to 12 business hours.

How our care plans work

Our first-sprint guarantee

If after the first sprint you don't feel like we're the right partner, we stop and don't invoice for that sprint.

If we're the wrong fit, we'll say so on the first call and point you to a better option.

Frequently asked

Can you take over a project from another developer?
We can, and we've inherited a lot of projects from other teams. You send us access, and in a 2 to 4 hour review we look at code quality, architecture, and what's working. You get a written assessment of what to keep, what to rebuild, the estimated cost and timeline, with no commitment beyond the review.
What if the code has no tests or documentation?
That's common, and it doesn't stop us. We read the code, find what's broken and check it against data before we propose a fix. Before changing critical parts, we cover them with tests. At hand-off you get documentation, a clean Git history, monitoring setup and a 3-month code warranty.
Do you work with older Ruby on Rails applications?
Yes. We worked on Sharetribe Go, Sharetribe's own core platform, including upgrades to newer Rails versions. With the Betty Blocks team, we migrated their platform from Ruby on Rails to Elixir. We take over older Rails applications, bring them up to date and keep them secure with a maintenance plan.
